Both selections at Sandown disappointed yesterday with Barracuda Boy never really going and maybe lacking fitness and Farraaj fading in the latter stages before being eased down. Riskit Fora Biskit won the sprint well and looks an improver.
Tomorrow apart from the selection at Punchestown we will be having our final selections of the extremely disappointing 2012-13 jump season. Personally glad to see the back of it and I now hope that we get a decent run of warm weather for the flat.
Bet365.com Celebration Chase Grade 2 (CLASS 1), 2.40 Sandown
Finian’s Rainbow’s rating is skewed a bit due to him having won the Champion Chase last season but he has not looked himself this season. Two miles is probably too short for him nowadays and I would like to see him upped in trip.
Wishfull Thinking is consistent but his best form is behind him and he is held by Sanctuaire on last years running of this race. He has place claims at best.
Oiseau de Nuit is still a force to be reckoned with and won last time out but in a lower rated race. He is now eleven and may struggle to go with Sanctuaire here.
Sanctuaire has been facing Sprinter Sacre and won this easily last year and he looks to have a very good chance of doing the same again tomorrow.
Bet365 Gold Cup Chase (Handicap) Grade 3 (CLASS 1, 3.50 Sandown
A decent renewal of the seasonal finale with Willie Mullins sending over Away We Go which is now favourite for the race. He gets in here off a low weight and can certainly go close but any value has now gone and Willie’s horses have not been firing at Punchestown.
Well Refreshed would have been a selection if he had a bit more experience over fences and he is certainly a horse to follow next season as he has a touch of class. Hold on Julio could run into a place but has too much weight for my liking although the stable are now in form.
Same Difference is another with a lot of weight and the stable is not firing either with a few disappointments at Perth this week. He is another with scope for improvement though.
Philip Hobbs has a wonderful record in this race and Balthazar King can run well despite his big weight, however I actually think the other Hobbs runner Duke of Lucca is better placed to win this. He has a reasonable weight and jumps and stays well. He is a big price and with some bookmakers paying five places he is great value.
Our top rated horse is Saint Are and despite only being seven comes in here with a fantastic chance having run well in big fields having finished 9th in this years Grand National. He will find this easier and seems to run well in the Spring.
Good lcuk and hopefully we can end the season on a positive note.
