A couple of bets for Bank Holiday Monday which will hopefully recover some losses from Saturday which was summed up by the loose horse blocking Rex Impreator in the first.
We are backing in on race from Ripon and one from Epsom.
Great Surrey Handicap (CLASS 2), 3.05 Epsom
I would have been keen on La Fortunata here if it were not for the 6 pounds penalty. His apprentice takes some of the weight off but it is two years since he won at this level.
Jedward has only won twice in his career of 26 races and that strike rate is not attractive and I am not sure that Ryan Moore can conjour a win from him.
Fair Value has won here which is always a plus but all his career wins have come on quicker ground than he gets here.
Jiroft is yet to win in the UK but Robert Cowell as he showed with Jwala knows how to train sprinters and Jiroft is now running in a class where he can dominate. He is decent odds and can win from La Fortunata.
Ripon Rowels Handicap (CLASS 2), 4.10 Ripon
The Rectifier would have been a selection but appears to prefer faster ground and he is starting to climb back up the weights after his recent wins.
Osteopathic Remedy attempts to win this race for a fourth time and will go close as he loves this course. Other younger legs are likely to be too quick in the final furlong and he has place claims at best.
Ardmay is interesting at big odds but was very disappointing last time and may take a couple of runs to bounce back after his break.
Suits Me is getting on at ten but also likes the course and will not be far away at the finish. The stable is in fine form and Graham Gibbons is improving as a jockey.
Robert the Painter aims for a four timer here, but his extra weight is likely to slow him down in a tougher race than he has faced.
Haafaguinea is unexposed after only 4 runs but he has won two of those and now drops into the lowest class he has faced since debut. Adam Kirby is another jockey which is showing fantastic improvement in the last two years and he can stay close to the leaders until the final furlong. I would expect him to make his move with half a furlong to go and to repel challengers.
