A couple of places yesterday prior to My Tent or Yours beating The New One in a tough battle and the forecast paid £3.02. The King George was won by Silviniaco Conti with Cue Card leading all the way until the final furlong but hopefully some of you did the forecast combination - indeed the tricast came in as well! Joe Tizzard probably cost Cue Card a win here by going off far too fast but that is just a personal viewpoint.
A couple of selections at Kempton on Friday and we will be back in action on Saturday with decent racing as long as the weather allows. I did look at three races from Kempton including the 1.30 and liked Grandouet getting 6 pounds from Valdez and Dodging Bullets but I don't trust his jumping so I have left him alone.
2.00 Kempton William Hill - Download The App Mares´ Handicap Hurdle (CLASS 2)
Mickie improved for a step up in distance last time and is improving and can challenge here. However I think Nico de Boinville’s claim could prove the key in the closing stages for our selection.
Cannon Fodder gets in on a low weight but is out classed here and has place claims at best. He is dour stayer and can probably plod into third behind Mickie and Utopie des Bordes.
Scholastica will handle the going but I am not convinced that he will stay the distance and may lead for awhile before fading. His hurdling tends to be sound however and he will put pressure on the others through his speed over the obstacles.
Utopie des Bordes has a huge rating due to winning a couple of big races in France over fences, but he has also placed second in a Grade 3 race in the UK on soft going. He has a big weight but curiously the further the distance the weight seems to nullify plus the claim from his jockey will make a difference. If on form he should win this comfortably at a reasonable price.
3.05 Kempton William Hill - Bet On The Move Handicap Chase (CLASS 2)
Niceonefrankie is probably the holder of the best form in the race, but I feel that he has too much weight even if his form is progressive.
Bally Legend is a small field bully and is unlikely to find this as easy. He is generally a sound jumper and will be thereabouts, but is likely to be in the top four rather than winning.
Merrion Square is the probable favourite here but has been well beaten everytime he has run in this class. He is likely to give our selection the most to do but can be one paced and this makes him vulnerable.
Ma Filleule was thrown in the deep end having his UK chase debut in the December Cup which is a Grade 3. This is very much easier and his French chase form is decent enough. I don’t think Henderson would risk him if he hadn’t fully recovered from his recent race.
Nicky Henderson could well have a treble at Kempton tomorrow which will hopefully be good for us.
