We have a couple of selections at Sandown but also go to Racing News for the Punchestown selection.
bet365.com Handicap (CLASS 2), 1.40 Sandown
A decent sprint here with several of these three year olds having won at two.
The Taj has plenty of weight and looks badly drawn on a course where low numbers tend to do well. He has got talent and the benefit of having a run to sharpen him up and is likely to go close if making the break.
Smoothtalkinrascal won on his seasonal debut and may improve but that was at a lower class where both his wins have come from. He has scope though and the drop to five with an uphill finish could suit.
Riskit Fora Biskit is less exposed than most so could be anything but this is his first run on turf and I would like to see how that goes before risking anything on him.
Barracuda Boy ran in a top class 6 furlong race on his last outing but prior to that had won back to back races over 5 furlongs. Although those wins were at a lower level he showed that he can handle a higher standard and if fully fit can win here. His low draw will help especially if he can stay on the pace from the start.
bet365 Mile (Group 2) (CLASS 1) , 2.45 Sandown
Libranno scores very highly due to his various Group successes however those were all at shorter distances and this looks like a sharpener for his next race.
Highland Knight is a frustrating sort promising lots and delivering little. He is talented and could win if on a going day having had a sharpener a couple of weeks ago.
Trumpet Major has been poor the last two and is best watched until showing a return to form, but the stable are in great form so he cannot be written off in this.
Farraaj really impressed me on the all weather on his last two runs over two furlongs further. I do think that stretches him so the mile with an uphill finish should play to his strengths. He can go on from strength to strength this year having already recorded a 50% winning strike rate to date with 4 wins from 8 runs.
