Cleeve members selections – Thursday 21st September

Hi everyone,

Today's selection Titi Makfi  was very disappointing. At the two furlong pole she had every chance but when asked the question she looked like she'd grown lead boots and found absolutely nothing, which is strange for a Johnson horse as they normally pick up well. To be honest the pre-race vibes were not good as she drifted from 9/4 out to 7/2 as the money came for the eventual impressive winner; Beautiful Morning.

We have a couple of selections tomorrow so let's get down to business...

Good luck,
The team at Cleeve

3.35 Yarmouth 1m6f (1m6f17y) Bath Summer Staying Series Final Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+)

Selections:

Hope Is High 2 points win at 4/1 with Paddypower and Betfair

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Hope Is High – 107
2) Dukinta – 106
3) Grams And Ounces – 103

Race analysis:
Grams And Ounces is now ten years old and has never won above Class 3… and that was back in 2011. It is hard to see him progressing enough to win this plus his last two runs have been disappointing.

Dukinta is likely to still be progressing and dropping back to 1 miles 6 furlongs should suit. He can give our selection the most to do but I think he will struggle to get past Hope Is High.

Hope Is High has not been out of the first four in his last twelve runs, but all have been at a lower class than this. Saying that this has got to be one of the worst Class 2 Handicaps I have ever come across, so with both the horse and stable in form, I expect Hope Is High to be at the front come the finish line.

4.00 Pontefract 6f EBF "Breeders' Series" Fillies' Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-100)

Selections:

Clon Coulis 2 points to win at 7/4 with Bet365, Skybet and Paddypower

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 4 Rated:
1) Clon Coulis – 86
2) Kassia – 85
3) Marie Of Lyon – 70
3) Southern Belle – 70

Race analysis:
Marie Of Lyon and Southern Belle are both held by the top two rated unless there is a massive improvement.

Kassia is a course and distance winner, but has not been in the same form this season and that reflects the poor form of the stable. If she were to bounce back to form she will win this, but on all evidence this season that seems unlikely despite her second last time. Her best form is also on quicker ground than she gets here, so she is best watched.

Clon Coulis has only had three runs, winning twice and showing a likeable attitude. She won a Class 3 comfortably last time in similar conditions as this which means she has gone up in the weights, but this looks to be a weak race and if she continues her improvement she can win this readily.

4.10 Yarmouth 1m6f (1m6f17y) "Get On" With Dan Hague Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-100)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Theydon Grey – 75
2) Zenon – 73
3) Great Hall – 66
3) Alqamar – 66

Race analysis:
Too difficult to separate Theydon grey, Zenon and Alqamar so no bet.

4.50 Ayr 1m2f William Hill Doonside Cup Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Forest Ranger – 54
1) Frankuus – 54
3) Big Country – 52

Race analysis:
Again this is too close to call.  If Frankuus were to bounce back to form he should win this. But that has to be a biggish ‘if’ as he was very disappointing last time… No bet.
