Hi everyone,

as we said in the email last night we were waiting until this morning to post today's selections due to the Yellow weather warning for Suffolk to see if there was any change to the going at Newmarket.
There was only 6mm of rain overnight so the going is now officially Good to Firm Good in places so no change.
They may get a small amount of rain later today but it shouldn't affect the going.

We have analysed the 5 qualifying races at Newmarket but 3 of them have small fields limiting our opportunities.
We have come up with a couple of selections so let's hope we can make it a winning weekend to finish off the month.
We will be back tomorrow morning with selections for Sunday.

Good luck
The team at Cleeve

1.30 Newmarket 7f (Row) Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-105)

Selections:

Bella Fever 1 point each way at 20/1 generally

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Arigato – 66
2) Blown By Wind – 66
3) Kasbaan – 66

Race analysis:
Top three are joint rated and Kasbaan may get an undisputed lead here, but all of his decent form is on all-weather surfaces. He is likely to give the others something to aim at and be passed in the final furlong.

Arigato is a course and distance winner and has won multiple times at Newmarket. Arigato has been beaten anytime he has been tried at this level, so is unlikely to win here.

Blown By Wind is another course and distance winner and beat Pogo here before disappointing at Royal Ascot. He could bounce back to form here, but I prefer to wait to see him confirm his form from his previous run. It may be that the four pounds rise he got has put him too high in the handicap or perhaps the ground was against him at Ascot.

Breath Of Air won last time out and has Ryan Moore up this time. He beat Blue Mist at Newbury last time and that one was a disappointing favourite next time out when a short-priced favourite. Breath Of Air has been hard to win with and may have to settle for a place here. His price looks a bit on the short side here.

The one that interests me is the South African import Bella Fever trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam, who has a great record at Newmarket in Class 2 and above races. Bella Fever won a very decent handicap in Meydan and has won 5/6 races and if the ground remains quick will love conditions. She is the second-highest official rated horse in the race and is fourth on our ratings. Bella Fever looks to be far too big a price and is worth chancing on her UK debut.

2.05 Newmarket 7f (Row) Betway Handicap (Class 2) (3yo 0-105)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Stone Circle – 55
2) Ayr Harbour – 54
3) Boccaccio – 52

Race analysis:
Third rated Boccaccio is of interest here but is too short a price for us to have a wager on. A good race to watch despite a disappointing turnout. No Bet.

2.40 Newmarket 7f (Row) Betway Criterion Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

Turjomaan 1 point each way at 10/1 generally

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Limato – 81
2) Sir Dancealot – 73
3) Turjomaan – 71

Race analysis:
A small but decent field here with two previous winners of this race present Limato winner in 2019 and Sir Dancealot winner in 2018. Both are older than the average winner of this and Limato has needed a run in the last few years prior to winning. Sir Dancelot has his best form at Newbury and looked out of sorts on his seasonal return and is disadvantaged by a five pounds penalty.

Fourth rated Happy Power is a consistent sort but is probably just below this level and may have to settle for a place in the top five.

Mubtasim is a potential threat having won over course and distance. He is exposed and his career has dropped away since he was gelded at the end of his three-year-old season. His wins have come in handicap company in the last couple of years, so he would need to step up to win this.

Turjomaan ran in the Queen Anne Stakes and finished last, but that was over a mile. He has finished second in a Group 2 over 7 furlongs but is yet to win on turf and now sports a first-time visor, which suggests concentration issues. I do think he does have the ability and I think the drop from Group 1 to Listed level will be well within his capabilities. His price lets us play each way and I will be surprised if he is not in the first three.

3.15 Newmarket 1m2f (Row) Betway Fairway Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

 Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Thunderous – 48
2) Volkan Star – 46
3) Man Of The Night – 42

Race analysis:
A disappointing field size for a race with a decent prize and it is likely to be run at a muddling pace until the final furlong. No Bet.

3.50 Newmarket 1m2f (Row) Betway Casino Handicap (Class 2) (3yo 0-100)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Nugget – 38
2) Al Maysan – 36
3) Fruition – 34

Race analysis:
Another small field with only four runners and no betting opportunity. No Bet.
