As promised here is the update post for Leopardstown. (don't forget there are also selections for Doncaster in the previous post)
A great days racing at Leopardstown and as mentioned in last nights intro there has been rain in Ireland. This is what the clerk of the course has said "There were 27mm of rain at Leopardstown where the going is now yielding, good in places on the outside track and yielding, soft in places on the inside track." So we were right to wait before posting selections for this afternoon.
The team at Cleeve
16:40 Leopardstown - 1m 6f class Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. 'Petingo' Handicap (Premier Handicap) (3yo plus)
Pyromaniac has a hurdle rating of 133 so his flat rating looks low with scope for improvement at 86. He had a spin over hurdles last time out after a two and half months lay off so that should have sharpened him up. He has won three times on the level with his win at Galway over 12f on yeilding ground was encouraging and shows that conditions will be ideal today.
Tony Martin had the second in this race last year and is a master trainer at targeting races from far out. Pyromaniac looks the part and has a nice low weight of just 8-7. Wayne Lordan is booked to ride and that booking catches the eye. At a the price we can see some real value in him and look to hit the frame at least with there being 4 places.
18:20 Leopardstown - 1m class 1 Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes (Fillies' Group 1) (3yo plus)
A cracking Group 1 fillies contest in prospect. Amazing Maria is running at the top of her game this season and David O’Meara’s filly has won a couple of Group 1 contests since then. A victory in the Falmouth Stakes was followed by success at Deauville and she will be the one to beat on that form.
She travels well in her races and possesses a great turn of foot. The ground has come more in her favour than for the favourite and big danger Legatissimo who gets a 5lb age allowance. However, Amazing Maria is not as ground dependent as the favourite and can continue her winning sequence over her ideal trip
19:20 Leopardstown - 7f class Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. 'Sovereign Path' Handicap (Premier Handicap) (3yo plus)
Bold Thady Quill ran a cracking race last year and was third by only 2 lengths in this race last year at a big price giving the winner Baraweez 4lbs. This year they re oppose but he now has 3lb pull (both have 5lb claimers on board)
The ground will suit him well having ran a big race in the Irish Cambridgeshire on yielding ground last time out after having missed the break.
He looks overpriced at 16/1 and if he gets a clear run up the straight will surely be there or thereabouts at the finish.
