Cleeve members selections – Friday 3rd December

Stoners Choice

Good Morning everybody,
we had one selection on Wednesday.

Lake View Lad ran well under top weight but was outdone by Blaklion who returned to form and Aso who also ran very well at a distance that usually stretches him.
I am not sure Lake View Lad will improve for this run so may just need to drop a few more lbs for win purposes in future handicaps. He may improve if upped in distance so the Welsh National would not be out of the question if given soft ground.

We move on and have a selection from Sandown today.

Good luck
The team at Cleeve

3.35 Sandown - 2m7½f (2m7f98y) Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Pertemps Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) (Class 2) (4yo+)

Selections:

Stoner’s Choice 1 point each way at 7/1 Skybet or William Hill (5 places)

Race Analysis:

Pileon looks to be returning to form on the evidence of his two and a quarter length 4th place last time out. I do not think the horse can be relied upon to replicate that run given he has not won since a Class 4 Novice win nearly 2 years ago.

The Cob could be a danger if fit and ready to go. His best form so far has been on soft or heavy going.

Storm Arising is another returning after a break. He was 2nd in last years renewal of this race and could prove to be a danger.

Stoner’s Choice should be well suited by the good/good to soft ground that is forecast at Sandown today. He ran really well on seasonal debut when just over a length behind Calva D ‘Auge at Kempton, he was there with every chance after the last and in my eyes he will improve for that run.
He has yet to win at this distance but did win very easily over 22 furlong’s last season slamming Bells Of Peterboro by 9 lengths. Stoners Choice is only 6 years old so can still improve for this step up in distance. There does not look to be too much pace to this race which should help Stoner’s Choice and he could even take them along allowing jockey Max Kendrick to set the fractions.

Fergal O Brien’s yard is in fair form and the trainer has a good course record with his runners at Sandown. Hopefully, Stoner’s Choice can add to that tally today.
