Hi everyone,

nothing to report back on today but the ratings performed quite well.
Of the 4 races we gave ratings for there were 2 top rated winners in Arctic Sound and good old Byron Flyer who ran out 2 lengths to the good under Ryan Moore so it turned out that he managed to cope well with the 3lbs rise in the weights. Of the other two races I would forget the 2-year-old nursery but the other race gave the winner and the second Nearly Caught and Sheikhzayedroad (Sevenna Star was a non-runner) just in the wrong order. So hopefully this helped you in any of your own selections.

We have analysed the 7 qualifying races and come up with our first selection of the week.

Good luck,
The team at Cleeve

1.50 Newmarket 1m (Row) Muhaarar British EBF Rosemary Stakes (Listed Race) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Agrotera – 82
1) Beshaayir – 82
3) Unforgetable Filly – 81

Race analysis:
This should be a very good race, but the numbers show how close it is likely to be. Of the top 3, I think this will be between Unforgetable Filly and Agrotera as Beshaayir may struggle in this company. Unforgetable Filly spreadeagled the field last time at Haydock and now has a penalty to contend with. Agrotera will be thereabouts after her good 2nd at Longchamps last time.
Both are pretty short in the betting for me so no selection

2.25 Newmarket 1m4f (Row) Princess Royal Nayef Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Perfect Clarity – 83
1) Star Rock – 83
3) Mrs Sippy – 79

Race analysis:
Like our ratings I could not separate the top two and I think this is another race to watch not to bet in. I know we are having a lot of races with no bets at present, but this usually happens at this stage of the season and better to be patient than foolhardy. No Bet.

3.00 Newmarket 7f (Row) Shadwell Rockfel Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Main Edition – 85
2) Just Wonderful – 83
3) Yourtimeisnow – 78

Race analysis:
Our top 3 rated are very close in the betting at 3/1, 7/2 and 4/1 which shows it is close it is between them. Main Edition drops back to Group 2 after a disappointing run at the Curragh last time and Mark Johnston is adept at turning round horses quickly but the stable is in and out and it’s hard to know which of his to back at present. Just Wonderful like Main Edition drops back to Group 2 after finding Group 1 a bit too hot. If you had to put a gun to my head I would probably go with Yourtimeisnow who is progressing well for Roger Varian and has further improvement to come, but we will have a watching brief on this one.

3.35 Newmarket 1m (Row) Shadwell Joel Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Mustashry – 44
1) Regal Reality – 44
1) Accidental Agent – 44

Race analysis:
A very poor turnout for a good race with good prize money. At least in this race, Zabeel Prince should get to set the pace up front which may set the race up for a finisher, but he is not out of this and a couple of the winners today made all. With the top three all having the same rating it is bound to be a trappy affair and nothing offers any real value… so again no selection.

3.50 Haydock 5f J W Lees Bitter 1828 Nursery Handicap (Class 2) (2yo)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Izzer – 79
1) She Can Boogie – 78
1) Concierge – 75

Race analysis:
Probably between the top two but unlikely to be any value and as you know a two-year-old nursery is never a place to bet. No Bet.

4.45 Newmarket 1m4f (Row) Mukhadram Godolphin Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Barsanti – 46
2) Communique – 45
3) Raheen House – 40

Race analysis:
Another poor turnout for some decent prize money. There are only 5 runners and none of them particularly want to make the pace so I see this ending up a final furlong sprint.

Of the top 3 rated, in a truly run race Communique is the likely winner as most of the others have not shown any decent recent form. But I don’t want to take around 7/4 on a hot and co,d stable in what will probably be a falsely run race, so no bet.

5.15 Newmarket 1m1f (Row) Shadwell Farm Handicap (Silver Cambridgeshire) (Class 2) (3yo+)

Selections:

Little Jo 1 point each way at 5/1 BOG Betfair and Paddypower (5 places)

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 4 Rated:
1) Little Jo – 173
2) Thomas Cranmer – 169
3) Everything For You – 155
4) C Note – 148

Race analysis:
A big field but not many in the race are showing any sort of form at the moment. Thomas Cranmer was well beaten in a Class 3 last time and probably needs to drop down the weights further before winning again. He does have a good winning strike rate, but all his wins have been at a lower level than this.

C Note has yet to win at this level but on the plus side has dropped below his last winning weight; however, he has been well beaten in his last few races. If on a going day he can definitely challenge, but with his current form that is unlikely.

Everything For You does come into this following a win and has been consistent in his last three races; he is likely to be the main challenger to our selection. He does carry a penalty and looked as though he wanted a longer trip, not a shorter trip. I will be surprised if he has the turn of foot to win this.

Fifth-rated Almoreb is wonderfully consistent and unfortunately that has resulted in him being awarded an inflated handicap mark, but he has been penalised for running well without winning. Almoreb has only won at Class 4 level and is more likely to place than win.

Little Jo is making a huge leap in class and has jumped ten pounds for his last win. That win has been one of four wins and a second since switching to Brian Ellison and I do think there is further improvement to come. Normally I would avoid horses going up several classes and in the weights, but so many of his rivals are in poor form, that I do think Little Jo off his present mark is dangerous he gets in here off bottom weight and the extra furlong should suit.
