Cleeve members selections – 15th September

Hi everyone,

Another winning day with both selections obliging to give us another 9 points profit to advised prices.

Euginio took a while to get going, but when Andrea Atzeni asked him to go on he stayed on bravely to stave off the challenge by Another Eclipse to win by a neck.

Then we had What a Home who went off at evens and was ridden quite confidently by Paul Hanagan. He went to the front from the 2 furlong pole and never looked like being pegged back to win slightly cosily by 1 1/2 lengths.

So that's 17 points profit so far for the St Leger meeting and we have another couple of selections for tomorrow, so let's hope we can increase the bank again.

Good luck,
The team at Cleeve

1.50 Doncaster 7f (7f6y) Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

Talaayeb 2 points to win at 4/1 generally

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Talaayeb – 125
2) Tomyris – 119
3) Eternally – 117

Race analysis:
A top class race for the girls and I expect it to be a very tight finish, and it could be the best tactically ridden horse that wins.

Eternally looks to have improved over the winter and finished second on her seasonal debut at Goodwood recently in a decent Group 3. She should improve again having had a run, but her price is shorter than I would like to see considering the strength of the opposition.

Tomyris handles soft going, but has not really progressed from her early season promise. She does have place potential but this race is tough and she has disappointed before at this level.

Aiden O’Brien runs two here and must be respected as usual, but Smoulder is probably going to be a pacemaker for Music Box who is quite exposed… but is still likely to contest the places.

Talaayeb has not faced ground slower than good and won a Group 3 last time in a big field. That was a top performance as she battled hard to win. The ground is a bit of a question mark, but her sire won on soft and performed well on heavy, so I think she is worth a chance here. She is still improving and I expect another big run from her tomorrow.

3.00 Doncaster 1m6½f (1m6f115y) William Hill Mallard Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-110)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Time To Study – 64
2) Byron Flyer – 63
3) Elidor – 60

Race analysis:
A race that despite having a good look at I felt was just too close to call. There are only our points between the top three and there are question marks about either the ground or trip, so no bet.

3.35 Doncaster 2m2f (2m1f197y) Doncaster Cup Stakes (Group 2) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+)

Selections:

Montaly 2 points to win at 4/1 generally

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Sheikhzayedroad – 86
2) Thomas Hobson – 81
3) Montaly – 72

Race analysis:
Sheikhzayedroad keeps running consistently and always gives his best, but he has appeared to be on a downturn this season and has slightly disappointed me.

Thomas Hobson is held by Montaly on their recent run when Montaly won by 5 lengths. I do expect this to be closer between them, but expect the same result.

Montaly is the only progressive horse in the field and has been in great form this season. He would have been a bigger bet but he has a three pound penalty which makes things slightly more difficult, although the weight advantage diminishes in these longer races.

4.35 Doncaster 6½f (6f111y) Lakeside Village Outlet Shopper Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105)

Selections:

NO SELECTION

Race Analysis:

Cleeve Top 3 Rated:
1) Muntadab – 80
2) Normandy Barriere – 79
3) Dougan – 76

Race analysis:
Eight points separate the top five rated runners, and although there are doubts about Dougan (no wins on turf) and Normandy Barriere (going), it is also difficult for Muntadab carrying a six pound penalty… so no bet for us.
