No Luck today. We were right to oppose Fadhayyil in the 14:30 but if you picked the winner at 25/1 or the placed horses at 66/1 and 25/1 well done!! Majestic Queen ran OK but couldn't quicken at the business end of the race and finished one paced.
We were happy to ignore Elkaayed's last run but he was abysmal again and we will not be giving him another chance
Onwards and upwards and we are playing in 3 races at Doncaster today.
Just a note for the weekend. There is heavy rain due in Ireland Friday night which will result in plenty of non runners and reformed betting markets this Saturday at Leopardstown and Sunday at the Curragh. Therefore we will wait until Saturday morning before we consider any Selections.
The Team at Cleeve
14:30 - Doncaster - 1m 6f 132y class 2 Ladbrokes Mallard Handicap (3yo plus)
The form of Curbyourenthusiasm when it was 2nd just beaten by Wadi Al Hattawi has been franked when that horse hosed up at Newmarket and is now rated 113 having been as low as 98 when just running down Curbyourenthusiam.
He ran a shocker last time out at the Ebor Meeting but same could be said of Wadi Al Hattawi when we backed it when it was pulled up in the early stages of the race!!
Trainer David Simcock’s string are in rude health and running bang up to form.
Jamie Spencer remains in the saddle and knows this horse very well who having had a very hard race two starts ago will arrive in better form at Doncaster.
This trip could see further improvement and he is nicely weighted off 95 carrying 9-3
15:05 Doncaster - 2m 2f class 1 Socialites E-Cigarettes Expert Doncaster Cup (British Champions Series) (Group 2) (3yo plus)
We have backed Clondaw Warrior before this summer and he did win at Royal Ascot before running a little below his best in the Ebor Handicap last time out.
He is much better than his Ebor effort and interestingly Frankie Dettori rides again tomorrow. He has won at all types of distances and all types of ground.
This is a Group 2 but on ratings he is up there with the best in this race and will love the good ground.
His last win carrying a big weight at Galway was over a shorter trip but in soft to yielding ground. His win at Ascot was over the distance so I don’t expect the trip or the ground to be a problem.
We prefer Clondaw Warrior to Simeon the other Mullins runner and as we write the price is generally 6/1 but is shortening.
16:15 Doncaster - 6f 110y class 2 Coopers Marquees Handicap (3yo plus)
Shore Step found the 5F trip a bit too sharp last time out but ran creditably to finish just over 3 lengths from the winner
His two runs previous to that York run were very good when he was 4th at Glorious Goodwood in the Consolation Stewards Cup race and then he ran 2nd oly two lengths behind the impressive 3 year old Tanzeel at York in July.
Both those runs were on good to firm ground and the ground at Doncaster is riding quick this week which will suit.
The Handicapper has dropped him a pound back to 93 and the booking of William Buick is a positive.
