Cleeve Member selections – Sunday 26th February

Hi everyone,

The betting gods were not on our side today, and as we know it's a fine line between winning and losing in this game.

Gevrey Chambertin was in the process of running well, travelling nicely having made steady headway from the back. But he made a complete hash of the 18th and unseated Tom Scudamore, whether he would have won we will never know, but it looked likely that he would have been involved in the finish. Our other selection in the race Our Sam also met with bad luck when was badly hampered at the 1st. Andrew Tinkler tried coaxing him gently back into the race but he struggled from a long way out and was PU after the 17th.

Our luck didn't change in the Betbright Chase; Double Shuffle running an absolute blinder. He travelled strongly for Adrian Heskin and got into a beautiful rhythm, jumping beautifully, but when he blundered two out although he gamely recovered to jump the last upsides the eventual winner Pilgrims Choice and only went down by 1/2 a length. Ballykan ran a good race too. but just couldn't stay on for a place and once again we had the graveyard spot of all EW bets!!!

Surtee Du Berlais stayed on well for a place over at Newcastle, and went off a nice 20/1 (always use a bookie that pays BOG). I must admit to getting this one wrong as I ruled out Gayebury  saying that I wasn't convinced he would stay, well he definitely did and won by a convincing 13 lengths!!

So we definitely hit the bar today but try again tomorrow, and hopefully will have better luck.

Good luck,
The team at Cleeve

3.00 Fontwell totepool National Spirit Hurdle (Grade 2) (CLASS 1) (4yo+)

Le Rocher - 1 point each way at 12/1 with Betfair, 10/1 generally

Race Analysis:

Top 3 Rated:
1) Le Rocher – 73
3) Lil Rockerfeller – 69
3) Different Gravey – 68

Lil Rockerfeller is a model of consistency at Graded level having only finished outside the top three twice in his last fourteen runs. Saying that he has only managed to get his head in front once in his last eight, and that was when winning this race last year. Having to concede 8lbs to Le Rocher and Different Gravey is probably too big an ask, but he will give it his all..

Different Gravey will probably need the run despite being dropped back in trip here which will suit. He was well beaten in a Class 2 last time out so this Class 1 is also a big step up in. He is a horse that I do think has potential, and he looks to have better to come.

Of the other basically L’Ami Serge, Adrien du Pont and Camping Ground have become disappointing this season.

Le Rocher has been impressive to date this season and won at Uttoxeter last time when we had tipped him elsewhere on the same day. The time before he was beaten by Clyne at an invisible Haydock and Clyne has since run close behind The New One. Le Rocher is still improving and the weight he gets from Lil Rockerfeller should make all the difference here.
