We have just the one selection for today.... but we'll be back at approx 19.00 tonight with a look at Sunday's racing...
The Cleeve team
Goddwood 14:00 - 7f class 1 888sport Prestige Stakes (Fillies' Group 3)
This looks quite competitive on paper but a lot of the runners are unproven in the conditions with either the distance or the going. On our ratings there is not a lot between the front 3 in the betting but favourite Fireglow has looked to appreciate really quick ground on her previous two runs… and had a pretty tough race last time out. Belvoir Bay was an impressive course winner last time out in a lower grade than this, but looked like he will handle the extra furlong OK, however she looked to relish the fast ground that day and doesn’t show much knee in his action too prove herself on this ground and over the distance, but she .
Epsom Icon looks thoroughly likeable, and although it might of been a funny race she won last time out as the outsider of 4 in the Washington Singer at Newbury, she did it nicely and shows she handles cut in the ground. Prior to that she put two well fancied horses firmly in their places in a competitive Epsom Nursery where she was ridden by Charles Bishop who gets the leg up today.
Light Up Our World could bely her odds, she was a game winner of a Newmarket maiden last time out showing plenty of tenacity and she previously showed promise on ground with cut. This is a big step up in class but she is unexposed.
Trainer Mick Channon has won this race in 2 of the last 3 years so knows what it takes, and although Fireglow brings the best form into the race Epsom Icon looks the least exposed of the front 3 and may have more to come. She has to overcome a wide draw but her racing style and the relatively small field should mean it is not too much of a factor.
