Cleeve flat member selections – Saturday 24th October

Hi everyone,

Quite an odd day on the flat tomorrow with some very tricky races combined with some short favourites. The weather forecast at Newbury is heavy rain for most of the day, so we are going to give the meeting a miss altogether... which means that it is the quietest day of the season for us with just the one selection at Doncaster.

As always we are conscious it is your money on the line so in the circumstances would rather take a cautious approach... there is always another day, and we'll be taking a look at Sunday's Leopardstown card to see if anything jumps off the page there.

Good luck,

The Cleeve team

Selections:

Demora - 1 point ew @ 7/1 with BetVictor and Hills

Race Analysis:

Demora was 3rd in this race last season and comes here in top form after a gutsy win in a class 2 sprint at Leicester last time out. She broke well that day and led until the two furlong pole when she looked likely to weaken out of it, but stayed on in determined style to run out a cosy winner. That was her first run for 4 months after what had been an undeniably disappointing start to the season. Whether there was a physical problem or she had just gone a bit sour is unknown (by us) but it did see her drop a few pounds down the weights, and even after going up 3lbs for that win she is still below her highest winning mark.

The booking of Frankie Dettori Booked is a strong positive and she will relish underfoot conditions, and this is definitely her ideal distance with all of her 7 career wins coming over the minimum trip. Based on today’s action she looks well enough drawn in 10… so all things considered she must go very close here.

The dangers look to be Steps who has won twice in higher grade and ran a decent race in the Prix De L’Abbaye, his chance is much brighter with Cameron Noble taking 7lbs off but he is pretty inexperienced. El Viento has been running consistently for the in-form Richard Fahey but he has gone up in the weights for each of his last 3 runs without winning so looks to be handicapped to the hilt.
