Highlight of the week

Stradivarius put in a dazzling display and lit up Royal Ascot week. An alarming drifter in the run-up to the race he went from as short as 1/2 to as big as 10/11, but saw a flood of late money before the stalls opened. His 10L demolition of Nayef Road with a further 8L back to the third was easily the most impressive of his career and sparked thoughts of an Arc bid and tongue-in-cheek comments that John Gosden had 'put us all away'!

Low point of the week

Purely on a racing front, it now looks pretty much like Pinatubo earned 'wonder horse' status purely down to his precocity as a 2-y-o. He has now been beaten in both his starts as a 3-y-o and although he again ran with merit and narrowly turned the 2,000 Guineas form round with Wichita... both were put in their places by John Gosden's unbeaten Palace Pier.

Weekly Overview

There's no way around it, last week was a very frustrating Royal Ascot for us and for all our members too. Our win and place strike rate hit 42% but we just couldn't seem to get into the winner's closure (a bit like Cheltenham).

Of the 7 places we had, I did think 3 were going to win (Naharr, Deja, Dubai Love) but all three found one or two too good for them at the post.

We finally got a winner on the last day with Hello Youmzain and given we only finished down 2.65 points on the week, if just one of those three had lasted home it would have put us in front.

But, and it's a big but... we are not in this game to 'scrape home', our objective is to generate decent profits regularly with a 12-month target of 100 points. We work very hard for our members and are aware that they get frustrated when the winners aren't flowing.
