Highlight of the week

Enjoying the excitement of the best 5 days in the world has got to be the highlight of the week win or lose. There were numerous sub-plots worthy of mention including , Hayley Turner managing to lay the 30 odd year hoodoo of lady jockeys... she beat the Queen and Cleeve into second but neither of us would of minded too much , Frankie lit up the week and put the fear of God up bookmakers for a couple of hours, but it was also fantastic to see journeyman Danny Tudhope as leading jockey, albeit briefly... if strike rates were counted he'd have been well clear with 4 winners from just 10 rides!

Low point of the week

It was our worst Royal Ascot performance since launching in 2011...

Weekly Overview

Well, Royal Ascot is over for another year and we won't be shedding any tears to see it go. Yes, it is one of the toughest weeks to come out on top and yes the changing ground conditions further complicated things, but there is no doubt we (and you) are desperately disappointed with how things played out.

It could have been quite a different story as Veracious, Vale of Kent and Perfection were a length and two heads out of the places. That would have made a difference of around 17  points and turned a losing week into a winning one. And plenty of members emailed in to say that they had backed them with Skybet who paid out on all 3!

But we have to take it on the chin, it's a game of fine margins and more often than not they go our way, so we can't complain too much when the dice rolls against us.

Our target is to average 10 points profit a month and deliver 120 points profit to our members each year... so if you had offered us a 33 point profit after less than 2 months of the season we'd have taken it gladly.

We realise that's not much consolation to new members who signed up for Royal Ascot and hope they will show some patience as you can't judge a service on either good or a bad week... it's only long term performance that really counts.

But there is no doubt both new and long-term members are hurting to some degree, we were almost 65 points up on the 1st June and that total now stands at 34 points... a correction of 21 points. But onwards and (hopefully) upwards.

There is some very decent racing this week it's going to be a very busy one, we've got almost 20 races to analyse so keep an eye on your inboxes as we could be in action on Wednesday and Thursday as well as across 4 meetings on Saturday.

Hopefully, normal service will be resumed!

Best wishes,
The team at Cleeve
