Highlight of the week

Noel Fehily bringing the curtain down on a glittering riding career with a winner on his final ride at Newbury. It's nice to see someone going out at the top of their game at a time of their choosing.

Low point of the week

We hit a 0% win & place strike rate for the first time since I can remember. Tom behonest te week after Cheltrenham is always a bit of a comedown after such a feast of great racing, but we have Aintree next week and the start of the Flat this weekend so things are looking up.

Weekly Overview

Hi there,

Not much to say this week with just 3 selections and the nearest we managed to get to troubling the judge was 7th! William H Bonney was (we thought) a good e/w selection as he was the classiest horse in the race by far, but he never got competitive and finished a well-beaten 7th... doubly galling was that our 2nd and 3rd top-rated finished in the first two spots at 15/2 an 14/1. On Saturday Irish Roe never looked at home on the sharp track at Kelso and although he began to get involved he was squeezed at the second last and had to switch behind a wall of horses and it was game over. Our day didn't get any better as The White Mouse which was a strong 2 point e/w selection which is rare, clipped heels and came down on the home turn bringing down Etamine du Cochet... fortunately both horses were OK.

It was a week that happens now and again... a paucity of good racing combined with no luck and poor results... but it's part and parcel of the game and you only need to look at our monthly profit and our profit on the season to put things in clear perspective. There will always be down weeks, like there will always be losing bets. It's the longer-term trend that counts and as you can see that is strongly on the up and we're well on the way to recording our 15th profitable season on the bounce.

For our new members we are generally a lot busier on the flat as there is much better class racing throughout the week with meetings like Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood, Ebor, Chester and many more... so while you are making good money and it's covering the cost of your subscription you would be silly not to stick with it.

Best wishes,
The team at Cleeve
