Highlight of the week
The thrilling finish between If The Cap Fits, Roksana and Apple's Jades must have had plenty of you (and all of us) roaring at the TV... it summed up perfectly why we love the sport... and we won!
Low point of the week
We were a bit short on luck on both the Thursday and Friday with 3 of our 7 selections having bad luck in running in one way or another...
Quite a busy week to cover so I'll briefly mention each of the selections then sum up how our Cheltenham, and Aintree packages fared.
On Thursday although only showers were forecast the heavens really opened and made the ground really testing. Melon fell 3 out when clear, and although it was a bit far out to say he would have won I'd like to think he'd have been involved in the finish. Kruzhlinin ran well for a long way in the Foxhunter's but made quite a bad mistake 2 out and faded from there to finish 8th. Brelan D'As finished a couple of lengths out of the places and the fact that he was badly hampered at the first and nearly unseated Barry Geraghty cost us dear.
On the Friday we kicked off with Esprit du Large who was undoubtedly disappointing as raced in rear and never threatened to get involved. In the Topham both of our selections looked booked for the frame but Forest De Aigles went badly wrong landing over the last and suffered a fatal injury and our thoughts are with connections. Emitom ran into a good one in Champ and although he'd have been closer with a more positive ride to be honest, I doubt he'd have got to the winner.
The final day saw us get a couple of winners as the aforementioned If The Cap Fits got up in the most thrilling finish of the meeting and Chief Justice took the last under a great ride from 'The Codfather' capping a memorable day for Gordon Elliott although if he had not hung towards the second close home he may have been beaten.
So depending on when you bought your Festival Package, you were either very well up, well up or just a shade up as long (as you followed our advice to the letter) which given they are the two most competitive meetings of the season is not bad going.
We hoped that you enjoyed being part of Cleeve and our coverage of the Festivals and that you made a few quid to boot!
We are on the verge of closing our jumps season and kicking on to the flat which has always been busier and more successful for us... so we hope that you stick around!
