Highlight of the week....
We kept faith with Adrien du Pont who finally showed he is a classy performer in the making...
Low point of the week
Aiden Coleman aboard Janika seemed to give him far too much to do when runner up to Hell's Kitchen at Ascot...
This is actually a fortnight's report as we were short of time over a busy festive period so apologies, we will get back to our normal weekly reporting now it's all over!
It was a profitable Xmas for us which put a double-figure profit figure on the board for the season so far, a trend that we hope will continue. We hit a 35% win & place strike rate with our selections which is decent going, and our winners came in at SP's of 8/1 (twice) and 9/1 which underlines we're playing for value. Unfortunately, I'm A Game Changer and Beware The Bear both had rule 4 deductions which trimmed profits, but Adrien du Pont was the punt of the day and came in at half the odds we advised the night before. As I've said I thought Janika could have won with a more positive ride but both Momella (pulled up) and Sam Spinner (UR) were big disappointments... indeed Sam Spinner now has to be treated with great caution as he seems to have lost the zest for the game which was such a mark of his racing last season.
All roads now undoubtedly lead to the Cheltenham Festival and every winner of a half decent race will end up being quoted for one race or another. It is debatable that this fixation with Cheltenham is good for the jumping game or not, as the season contains many more highlights that also deserve their place in the sun.
This week due to a dearth of decent racing we won't be in action until Saturday when we should have selections at Sandown and Wincanton.
Best wishes for 2019,
The team at Cleeve
