Highlight of the week

Champers on Ice ran a cracker and stayed on really well in a battling finish winning at a decent price. We made a decent profit on the week which clawed back a good chunk of the November's losses.

Low point of the week

Brave Eagle looked like he might be running into a place at a massive price but was almost brought down at the 17th and that was game over.

Weekly Overview

A bit of a busier week with 7 selections in total and on the whole, a much better week than we have had of late. We managed to make a decent profit of just over 11 points which clawed back some of the month's losses. We are still down on the season to date but we don't need many winners such as Champers on Ice to get right back on track and there's plenty of time to do that.

Of the 7 selections, we managed the one winner and our weekly early odds antepost placed (we definitely got the value with our bet paying 4 places)

The month of November has been frustrating, to say the least with:-

31 selections
- only 2 winners
- only 3 places

This equates to a 16% win & place strike rate which is well below our average strike rate which is historically 30%+, but we had quite a few win bets that just didn't produce the goods. This week it feels like we may have turned the corner and we hope to start to get back into consistent profit over the coming weeks.

Our first selection of the week Spiritofthegames was a huge disappointment and went backwards from his reappearance, at no stage did he look to be in his comfort zone and never travelled well and the wind operation doesn't seem to have worked at all.

Conversely, Champers On Ice faired much better. He stepped up on his reappearance run, in a what was a much more competitive handicap than last time He was always in front and made all. His jumping was much improved and was shaken up 2 out and battled gamely up the straight to win by 3/4 length.

Larry took a step forward, up to a point. His jumping largely holding up better than last time but a bad blunder at the 4th last ended his chances.

Soul Emotion shaped as if better for the run after 11 months off. He was in mid-division, and chased leaders after 4 out but was outpaced 3 out and left behind to be beaten by nearly 30 lengths. I think he will come on for the run and we will look to see where he goes next.

We had two in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase in Robinsfirth and Brave Eagle. Of the two Brave Eagle looked like he may run into a place at a big price but was almost brought down at the 17th which ended his chances. I think he will improve for the run and he has a big handicap in him at some point. Robinsfirth is another one where the wind operation doesn't seem to have made any improvement and I will want to see him run again before considering him.

Jonniesofa was our midweek ante-post selection and we put him up at 6/1 so definitely got the value with as he went off the heavily backed 11/4 favourite and  although he looked threatening for most of the race he probably raced a bit freely and paid for contesting the lead, weakened over the second last and finished 4th... but we got paid the 4 places in a 9 runner field as we were on early.
