Highlight of the week
Even though she wasn't a selection, watching Enable win the Coral Eclipse in fine style was a joy. She had her doubters worried about the lay-off, and the distance being a bit short of her best, but John Gosden knows when she is ready and she cemented her credentials as one of the best mares we've ever seen.
Low point of the week
The performance of First Eleven in the Old Newton Handicap was very poor, but the fact that I said in the post that I would have put up Kelly's Dino up as a selection but the yard was stone cold, and as sod's law states he went in at a very nice price.
well, it was another winning week for members with a profit of 7.6 points courtesy of our 2 selections at Sandown on Friday.
Liberty Beach was a confident pick based on her fine run in the Queen Mary and the result was never really in doubt. She travelled well in behind the leaders and when Jason Hart pulled her out she quickened smartly and easily put the race to bed, going clear by 3 1/4 lengths. Beringer was the subject of a gamble from an overnight 8/1 down to as short as 7/2 although he drifted to 11/2 just before the off. He looked the likely winner halfway up the straight but got slightly checked as they hit the 2 furlong pole and had to be switched wide by Andrea Atzeni, he ran on strongly he failed by a short head but would have got up in another stride.
On Saturday Key Victory ran pretty well hut was just run out of a place close home. First Eleven travelled really well for most of The Old Newton Cup but when the race quickened in the straight he found nothing and ended up a disappointing 11th of 17. Pat Doyle saved our day getting Beat Le Bon up in the shadow of the post justifying strong support that saw him go off the 6/4 favourite giving us a break even day.
