Highlight of the week

It was nice to see Ralphy Boy Two deliver at a double-figure price for our Eyecatchers service

Low point of the week

Tis Marvellous had absolutely no luck in running in the Beverly Bulllet and finished full of running...

Weekly Overview

Hi there,
Well, we closed August with a profit of over 36 points... and that included the worst run we've had all season!

Talking to a number of colleagues who are in the same game, all report that August was very patchy, which was probably due to the very wet period we had which gave soft, even heavy going at a lot of tracks.

We can't control the weather, but we can't complain either, as it took our season's profit to almost 80 points which is pretty good going although we are aiming to top the 100 points profit mark by the end of the season.

It was a quiet week on the members bet front, we only played on Saturday and started well when one of the best-backed horses of the day; Oh This is Us got us off to a flyer under a confident ride from Andrea Atzen who beat 33/1 shot Almaratalyoum who was a selection for us last time out at Newmarket.

Tis Marvellous was all dressed up with nowhere to go in the Bullet. He travelled really strongly on the rails but every gap that Danny Tudhope went for closed on him and he just had to sit and suffer as he finished a close-up 5th and was still full of running... one that got away I think!

Neither Gabrial the Saint or Abel Handy could get involved at the finish although both were quite well placed as the race developed, but both faded in the last quarter mile.

In other news, it was great to see our Oaks antepost filly Lavender's Blue come back and win impressively at Sandown at the rewarding odds of 12/1. We thought she might need the run, but plenty of you backed her anyway judging by the emails.

And our Eyecatcher service burst into life with two runners... Ralphy Boy Two was a selection and won very well. He was backed in from an overnight 16/1 to 7/1 but drifted on course to return 14/1, so everyone was happy.

We also alerted you to Lyndon B chances at Sandown on Friday, but said he was no value at 13/8. He drifted on course to 2/1 and scrambled home in a tight finish... again it seems that plenty of you backed him anyway.

Best wishes,
The team at Cleeve
