Highlight of the week

Limited Reserve was given a great ride by Nick Schofield who rode a very sensible race letting the front runners cut each other's throat and sticking to the better ground on the outside. Although still well down jumping the last, he was confident he had enough in the tank to overhaul Myplaceatmidnight on the run-in.

Low point of the week

The debacle over our ante-post selection Call Me Lord. Yet another example of outrageous behaviour by the bookies in a week where they were again pilloried in the press mainstream press making the front pages of both the Daily Mail and the Guardian - more on this below...

Weekly Overview

Another relatively quiet week with just the 4 selections on Saturday.

I was disappointed that our first selection Ballymoy didn't get in the places. He would not have troubled the front two but coming over the last he was squeezed up a bit but was outstayed on the run-in. With the favourite disappointing and the second favourite falling, he should have at least placed.

Our second selection Acting Lass clearly wasn't 100% on the day and the market thought the same with him drifting out to 15/2 SP and nearly 11/1 on the exchanges. He was obviously struggling by the 11th and was pulled up before 4 out and (reported as lame after the race). That is not his true running and we will be keeping an eye on where he goes next.

Stewards report The performance of ACTING LASS (IRE) was considered. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination found the gelding to be slightly lame on its right-hind.

Frustratingly as we said in the write up for this race we were tempted by Vintage Clouds but thought the ground was against him, but he duly destroyed the field on heavy going.

Our third selection Kildisart was also very disappointing and ran worse than last time out, seeming to lose interest on the final circuit. He was handy early but had lost his place by halfway, and was labouring after the eleventh. Well behind when making a mistake 3 out, but no excuses... he wasn't good enough on the day and can't be backed with any confidence. It looks at the very least as if some form of headgear is required.

Finally, we had Limited Reserve who was given a cracking ride by Nick Scholfield back under more testing conditions and taking advantage of a big drop in the weights. He looked booked for second coming to the last but a late error from the tiring Myplaceatmidnight allowed Limited Reserve to overhaul him in on the run-in. We were hit by a rule 4 of 25p in the pound for bets struck before around 12.50 on the day. The BSP was 13.24 (12/1) but we have reported results to the advised price of 12/1 with the rule 4 deducted.

So a profitable day to advised prices and an even bigger profit at BSP.

Antepost review

We have covered the debacle of the ante-post selection in this post here and the update to the original post.

Many thanks for all the emails regarding the outrageous behaviour of the bookies on this race. They twisted their own T's & C's to their own benefit... some of you got a refund after complaining to Bet365 but some of you didn't.

If you did back it with Bet365 when they only offered 2 places then we recommend you make a complaint as they have refunded some people already.
