Highlight of the week
In pure racing terms we saw a great week at York with Enable, Stradivarius and Bataash all delivering the goods.
Low point of the week
It may be sweltering but Cleeve members need scarves and gloves as we go through our chilliest spell of what has been a great season so far. We'll weather the storm as we always do so just be stoic.
First of all a look at how every selection that we gave our members in a busy week fared...
1.55 - Gunmetal 1 point each way - missed the break a bit and never threatened to get involved - finished 13th
4.15 - Carnwennan 1 point each way at 15/2 - never looked like winning but ran on gamely enough to land the place part of our bets - finished 5th
3.00 Qaysar 1 point each way at 12/1 didn't have the best of passages in the first half of the race. Briefly threatened to get involved but hung on to land the place part of our bets - finished 6th
4.50 Clon Coulis 1 point each way at 25/1 - never threatened the leaders - finished 8th
1.50 Jazeel 1 point each way at 7/1 - never threatened to get involved and was disappointing... capable of much better - finished 9th
3.35 Battaash 2 points to win at 5/2 - the only bright point of our week. Broke Dayjur's track record with a really top-notch performance and re-established himself as Champion sprinter elect.
4.50 Biometric 1 point each way at 10/1 - never going to threaten the winner but probably paid for taking him on and managed to hang on grimly for a place - finished 5th
2.40 Goodwood Shadn 1 point to win at 5/1 - didn't get the breaks in running and the winner had gone when he got an opening... a bit unlucky - finished 2nd
3.00 Speak In Colours 1 point each way at 6/1 - the field never got to the leaders who set a scorching pace, but he ran pretty well - finished 4th
3.15 Goodwood Tabarrak 1 point each way at 10/1 - yet another Goodwood bad luck in running story... again a bit unlucky - finished 2nd
3.40 Ben Vrackie 1 point each way at 16/1 - very strange ride by Frankie from the front on Ben Vrackie who is always held up - did well to finish 7th and remains of interest... Dramatic Queen 1 point each way at 33/1 - pulled up after going wrong at halfway
5.20 Street Parade 0.5 points each way at 25/1 - never figured - finished 17th and Wedding Date 0.5 points each way at 25/1 well supported and ran pretty well without ever going to be involved, finished one out of the places in 6th
4.10 Goodwood Limato 3 pt win @ 3/1 - for me the most disappointing performance of the week. Had everything in his favour and was strong in the market but found absolutely zero for James Doyle when the race quickened....6th
4.30 Ripon Fayez 2pts win @ 11/4 not the best of starts and always on the back foot, had too much to do when the winner kicked for home although he ran on strongly - finished 3rd
Not the best of weeks for sure! But looking back on it there were only 4 disappointing runs and we had 3 x 25/1 selections so were always hoping with them. Two were a bit unlucky and that could have turned the week around.
As I said to one member who emailed in bemoaning our performance...
The Week Ahead
A quieter week in store for us, with no action until Saturday...
