Winners galore of course!!
No promises but we'll be trying our best of course... this year's Festival could be one of the trickiest in recent times as the prevailing fast ground has meant that many of the good horses haven't been able to be risked, so the collateral form isn't as strong as usual on both sides of the Irish sea, and that's before we even try and tie the two form books together!
Add to this the heavy rain we've had in the last few days with more rain forecast and gales. Clerk of the Course Simon Claisse had already started 'selected watering' of the course and quick drying wet ground could just make conditions very holding and sticky. Most of this season's novices and juveniles on both sides of the Irish Sea have been running on good'ish ground, so it could be that the formbook so far is in for a pretty good shake-up.
Then there are the individual wrinkles... Presenting Percy hasn't jumped a fence this season, Benie des Dieux hasn't even had a run. Lalor and Angel's Breath have had seriously interrupted campaigns, Laurina has never run against the boys or any horse rated within 20lb of Champion Hurdle class but could be anything, Paisley Park might just have been beating a group of English stayers on the downgrade... and now has to line up against the machine... who hasn't run for almost 80 days and fell last time out - the ultimate Cheltenham hoodoo stat!
So we will be treading very carefully, the worst thing you can do is have a bet in every race for the sake of it... the more you bet the bigger the chance there is that you will lose. If you have to have an interest in every race do the ITV 7 or have a placepot.
Do take advantage of the bookie offers and invest the time to open a couple of new accounts. You can have Buvair D'Air at 66/1, 33/1 on Benie des Dieux or 33/1 on Altior, Paddypower are money back as a free bet if 2nd, 3rd or 4th on ALL races on day 1, Skybet are money back as a free bet if you back a loser in the first race EVERY day, Betway the first and last race everyday... jaisus lads what more do you want?
And with a plethora of new online bookies out there, for those that can be arsed there's serious money to be made, certainly a festival's worth of free bets if you play it right.
Our selections will be out before 19.00 every day, so if technical gremlins mean that you haven't received an email for some reason... go and check the site.
We will be playing two against the field in most of the handicaps and our top priority in making selections is as much about not losing money on a race as it is about winning. We will be publishing a daily review rather than doing our normal weekly review as that would probably amount to War & Peace (like this blog!).
So remember to keep your cool, follow our advice, take advantage of the bookmaker's generosity... and above all else enjoy it!
